Tinkering - Part Two

(259 words, 1 minute read)

I wrote a blog post back in September 2025 about tinkering. Now that I am revisiting the topic, I hate to admit that I still haven’t added much tinkering into my daily routine. In the post, I was trying to figure out how to change my mindset around cleaning my house. Could the spirit of tinkering be applied to cleaning? I have concluded that it can’t or I can’t.

So, I put the thought out of my mind and went on with my business. Now, six months later, I am revisiting the concept. I wrote a blog post recently about planning as self-care, which takes a different approach to tinkering.

Tinkering, by definition, is about exploring and questioning without expectations of a result. It’s time/activity to connect the brain and the body in the spirit of play. In my post, I realized that planning was play for me. So maybe September’s blog had been rattling around in my brain, and I unconsciously came to a conclusion.

The real takeaway from this is that you have to make choices for yourself. Rooting around on the internet is a great step, but I can’t say it is where you are going to find your answer. The internet is easy, fast, and cheap.

My mother’s voice is asking – if everyone was jumping off a cliff, would you do it?

You have to keep checking in with yourself and asking questions. Don’t get sucked into doing what you are being told or what everybody else is doing. You are better than that.
