October’s Spark of Joy

October is the month of food holidays; I can’t wait! I guess it reflects harvest time. American Cheese, Apple, Chili, Cookie, Dessert, Pasta, Pizza, Popcorn, Pork, Pretzel, Sausage, Spinach….I am getting hungry just typing. It’s also spooky season.

So let’s eat, be merry, and be scary!

Pick and read a book outside of your normal genre - If you feel like you are in a rut, this month try reading a book that you wouldn’t normally read. All books are adventures waiting to happen.

Roast some pumpkin seeds - or winter squash seeds! Clean them, soak them in salt water, and pop them in the oven.

Dance to funky music - Get up and get that body moving. Here’s a song to help you. I See You Baby.

Have a tea party - Oh, finger foods and a hot cup of tea. What a nice thing to do on a rainy afternoon. To make it really special, you could dress up, or not.

Pet a squirrel - Not really, but you could at least watch them for a couple of minutes. They are fascinating animals.

Watch Young Frankenstein - A classic movie for the scary season.

Tell a story - or rewrite an old one. This could be a story you tell yourself or one you repeat to others. Play the “what if” and make the story bigger, smaller, or change the outcome.

Stop and smell the roses - or any other flower along your daily path. Take the break and enjoy.

Oct 13th is National No Bra Day - feel the freedom. (Hahaha. Just checking).

Roast a head of garlic - fill your kitchen with the smell of roasting garlic. When it is done, spread the cloves over a slice of crusty bread and pair it with a bowl of soup.
