August’s Spark of Joy
If you are like me, you want to take full advantage of the warmer months. Below are some ideas for August. Pick and choose what sounds doable for you right now.
Make up a new sandwich - During the dog days of summer, it’s a perfect time to have a sandwich for dinner. Try a new meat, cheese, or sauce. Think outside the box, like making an enchillda sandwich or a cordon bleu sandwich.
Take a coloring book timeout - Do you have a coloring book? Take a timeout, sit under a tree, and relax as you turn a black-and-white image into a colorful creation.
Celebrate National Night Out Day - Aug 4th From Google - It is an annual community-building campaign featuring block parties, cookouts, and safety demonstrations designed to enhance relationships between neighbors and law enforcement.
Hunt for sunflowers - If you live in the northern hemisphere, August is a great time to take a road trip and hunt down a field of sunflowers. If you live in the southern hemisphere, it is a great time to put it on your next summer list of things to explore.
Shop at a garage sale - Whether you call it a garage, tag, yard, sidewalk, estate….spend a morning exploring these sales. For fun, as you browse, make a story up about the things you see.

Tell A Joke Day - On August 16th, make it a point to tell your favorite joke to anyone you come across. It is a tip of the hat to the national holiday, and it can lift your spirits.
Cook with more herbs and less salt - Do you have a favorite recipe that could use a revamp focusing on more herbs and spices and less salt? Go ahead, try a redo.
Hunt for lighthouses - You don’t need to live near the water to find lighthouses. Even in the middle of Colorado, I was able to find one! Those tag sales are a great place for such things.
Watch Julie & Julia - August 15th is Julia Child’s birthday. Celebrate by watching the movie Julie & Julia or an episode of The French Chef!
Eat a Peach - One of the best things about summer is all the fresh produce, and fresh peach season is in full swing. Savor the moment.
